As the lead designer for this project, a team of TAs and I created a game world for the land of EverLight, a fictional land designed to inspire the students of VTD 380: Advanced Character Design. Now, students can explore this landscape before choosing a direction for their projects or even stage their characters here afterward. Attention was paid to framing and pathing, providing players with points of interest to explore. Each area is defined with post-processing volumes, giving every section a unique atmosphere.
These atmospheres, along with structures, vegetation, and topology are used to tell the stories of the individual areas. For example, Blood Rock City, a gritty and ominous section of EverLight, is characterized by a dark grayscale post-processing volume and sparse vegetation. In contrast, Heaven's Step, a peaceful farming community, is full of bountiful crops, homey buildings, and a warm, welcoming post-processing volume.
